Heroes.

I have been meaning to blog about this for a long time, but the craziness of being back at school has gotten in the way.

This summer when I was working at the children's hospital I felt so blessed to be a part of the lives of some of these families. The parents have taught me so much, and I was amazed at their strength and dedication. Some of them would spend weeks in the hospital just sitting at their child's bedside while they would throw up their chemo or try and eat parts of their meals. They put their jobs on hold and replaced it with (in my opinion) the hardest job in the world-- watching their child battle cancer. Some kids would have better prognoses than others, but none of them were easy to swallow. I would often walk in to rooms to see the parents reading books about leukemia or osteosarcoma or other cancers. They wanted to absorb as much information as they could so that they could comprehend what their child was going through. I often think about how hard it has to be for them to just watch and know that for this season of their child's life there is nothing they can do to make it better. Still, they were all so strong. They sometimes would even smile more than me. I would find myself questioning why these kids, and I would have to stop and realize that His plan is so much greater than mine.  I don't think these families realized how much they impacted me, but I do know that I am grateful. I think about them often.
